The festival de jazz unlike any other, Jazz à la Villette, is back with a line-up as eclectic as usual – Archie Shepp, Chick Corea, The Herbaliser and, er, Gogo Penguin – plus concerts for kids and five music-themed films.

Jazz revolutionised music, and its influence is now found in a number of other styles that it has either inspired or created from scratch. From the most traditional to the most experimental, hints of jazz can be found everywhere.

Jazz à la Villette strives to present as much diversity as possible, with big names from the classic Blue Note era to its Under The Radar selection of new talents to look out for.

If you thought you hated anything jazz-related, this might well be the festival you need.
The festival soigne also makes a special effort to look after your kids, with a selection of concerts cleverly called Jazz à la Villette For Kids, and showcases music on film at the nearby mk2 Quai de Seine cinema – the theme this year is For Ever Live Africa.

All in all, rather refreshing! As their slogan goes, Jazz is not dead!
