We visit The Gazoline Stand

No, we’re not buying petrol.

what used to be the world’s most ordinary mini-petrol station, just next to Invalides and the Rodin Museum, has been taken over by two of Paris’ hippest youngsters, offering a sweet little terrace, great coffee and, er, rasta vegan food 😳

There are probably few things less sexy than a petrol station, and to be honest, the 7th arrondissement of Paris isn’t exactly the city’s hub of hipness, so it’s quite a surprise to see The Gazoline Stand turn up here – not far from our hotels – to prove that anything is possible in Paris!

Revamped this summer by two kids who know their way around Paris’ hype machine, the venue now offers ‘fuel for cars and humans’ from 6am until midnight. You’ll find Diesel+ (“not great for the planet”) Lead Free 98 (“pretty awful too”), as well as great coffee, reasonably-priced breakfast pastries (around 2€), ice cream, hot dogs (vegan or chicken – 5€), sandwiches (7€)…

But that’s only the beginning. As it’s a hybrid / pop-up / ever-evolving / unpredictable space, there’s also a weird and wonderful collection of other items on sale too – badges, t-shirts, sweatshirts, travel guides to hip cities, gadgets, stickers, backpacks…

And Lord knows what the huge speakers behind the cash desk are for. Reggae sound system parties?

In any case, in very little space (but making full use of their sweet terrace), the place attracts a great mix of people – local workmen, hipsters, a few random tourists…

Regardez à quoi ressemblait le lieu avant – comparé à son état maintenant, il n’y a rien de plus banal.

If you’re in the area, at the Rodin Museum for example, take the time to savour a (really great) coffee, and leave safe in the knowledge that you’ve had a stylish Parisian experience you can tell your friends about!

The Gazoline Stand (here) is open seven days a week from 6am until midnight
