Henri Rousseau, A Painter’s Ambition exhibition at the Orangerie until 20th July 2026

Managed by the Musée d’Orsay and located in the Tuileries Gardens, the Orangerie has opened a new exhibition about one of the world’s most recognisable and popular painters – Le Douanier Rousseau – in collaboration with the Barnes Foundation of Philadelphia, which has no fewer than 18 of Rousseau’s works, and is loaning them for the very first time.

The exhibition has a whopping fifty paintings on show, making it an event not to be missed!

The exhibition Henri Rousseau, A Painter’s Ambition is your chance to learn all about the life of Henri ‘Douanier’ Rousseau, his ambitions, his artistic approach, and his rapid success with art dealers of the day.

It’s very rare to have so many of his paintings brought together on show, and in addition to those taken from the collections of the Orangerie and Barnes Foundation, others have been lent by prestigious art institutions in Europe and America, including a key piece from the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
